This is the second set of blocks including my seagull to be made into quilts for Palliative Care units in Northern Nova Scotia Winner of viewers choice to be announced at September meeting.
I did not completely ignore quilts this past summer. Ourchased an addition to my Star quilt collection at a River John auction. waiting for the family to get ma a picture of the maker so it can be included on the label.

the summer that wasn't is almost over. Hurricane Irene left us after a big blow but no damage ocean is calm today. I was happy yo be part of a successful quilt show in Pictou early this month. The Northumberland quilters fill a concert hall with quilts every year and I appraised some interesting ones. Their challenge was to donate a black and white block to be made into quilts of palliaitive care. Over half of the members participated. we were allowed to add one colour so I chose gold, for the seagulls beak.

summer has finally arrived in Nova Scotia BUsy gardening and now wild strawberries are ripe. Took a trip around part of the province after a caring for Quilts lecture in Bridgewater. Visited beautiful Halls Harbour on Bay of Fundy and saw a great collection of vintage kit quilts at Janet Gordon. Ended my travels by viewing another apronista's collection of aprons. Phyllis only had two lines of aprons out to greet me in her beautiful garden as it was trying to rain.. Loved the ways she has devised to exhibit her aprons , her living room was full .

One of the interesting things I did this spring was to attend a house tour in Hudson.Quebec. it was nice to spend the day with fellow teachers form those John Grant days, how can it be 14 years this month since I retired from teaching? The glimpse into other peoples lives was interesting and some of the antique quilts displayed were well worn and faded too.. Fortunately this ceramic sculpture was well secured done in my favorite purples no room for purple fabrics this summer too many other projects to finish. Next year I hope to make another quilted jacket , purple this time.

It takes me days to MOVE CAMP from Montreal to Cape John . My Matrix has a great capacity for all the appraisal stuff and quilts and quilting projects not to mention food and new stuff collected over the year for the cottage this year I am taking a selection of aprons for another project plus 10 quilting projects completed over the past 2 years for the Northumberland Quilt Show ,see below

June is here in all its glory . I get to enjoy the spring flowers in all their glory and the when I arrive in Nova Scotia tomorrow I get the best of spring again. The down side is that the weeds etc have been growing as well so there will be lots of gardening to do. Summer sechedule is in place see belowJune 4 2011

Hope all mothers had a great day today I talked with my sons and went for a wonderful walk in the woods with my husband ,here in Quebec the trilliums and trout lilies were at their peak, leaves starting to unfurl on the trees that wonderful yellow green, sadly no real mayflowers. My Mom passed a number of years ago but last year I did another memorial quilt to her memory This one features the green silk velvet dress that my father gave her the Christmas she was pregnant with me. It was exhibited in Calgary last April at the Canadian Quilters Conference and this image was taken with my eldest son who also did
this web site. the quilt will be exhibited next weekend May13-15 in St Anne de Bellevue at the Beaconsfiled Quilters show

I am back in Montreal West waiting for early spring,when the Magnolia trees bloom. Took this picture in the Carolinas last week.
Will be exhibiting in 2 quilt shows here next month so busy finishing projects .The picture below shows my progress with the reproduction of the oldest patchwork bed cover in North America . I started it years ago but now that it is currently on display at the Mc Cord Museum I am inspired to get it finished . The hour glass blocks are done in the English paper piecing style , whip stitched together. Found a similar brocade fabric for the border yesterday .It also need to be hand attached no sewing machines in 1726.
